It was first certified in France in April 1989 with a Safran Helicopter Engines (Turbomeca) Arriel 1D1 turboshaft, and has a max. gross weight of 2,250 kg (4,960 lb.). Airbus has made it possible to upgrade earlier AS350 B, AS350 BA and AS350 B1 models to AS350 B2s by way of a Service Bulletin.
